Senior Project
The Senior Project provides an opportunity for students to pursue their passions while also participating in a rigorous process that will enhance their college and career readiness. Throughout their senior year, SK students will be supported in the process of fulfilling the obligations for this graduation requirement through their Senior Paper and Senior Project courses. While the focus will be on supporting their Senior Project journey, seniors will be exposed to various skills that will support them into college and future careers. In Senior Paper, students will not only be guided and supported through the process of writing an extensive research paper, they will also be supported in writing resumes, cover letters/appeal letters (financial and acceptance), and college application essays. In Senior Project and Civic Action, students will produce tangible evidence combining the knowledge gained in the research process and the experience in the field with a mentor. Additionally, students will engage in a variety of activities to develop and strengthen their civic knowledge and participation. Both courses are taught using the workshop model and are student-centered and reflective. Consequently, when the students leave these courses, not only will they be college and career ready, but they will be better equipped to handle the demands and rigor of life.

Grade 12 Spring
In order to graduate from SKHS, all students must complete a Senior Project during the spring semester of their senior year. After successful completion of the Senior Paper class, seniors will be enrolled in the Senior Project class which is designed so that they will produce tangible evidence combining the knowledge gained in the research process and the experience in the field with a mentor. Students will be working on this in and out of school for a large part of the senior year. Students are required to present their Senior Project, which provides an opportunity for students to showcase the knowledge gained through the Senior Project experience to a panel of judges composed of teachers, staff, and community members. In addition to working on the Senior Project, students will be engaged in a civics curriculum designed to expose and develop students' understanding of domestic and international issues faced by Americans, including basic civic rights and responsibilities. This course is both student-centered and reflective. Consequently, when the students leave this course, not only will they be college and career ready, but they will be better equipped to handle the demands and rigor of life.
