The School Based Evaluation Team determines student eligibility based on formal evaluations and a review of current academic and behavioral performance. If the student is determined eligible for specialized services, an educational and behavioral program is established to meet the student’s individual needs. A continuum of services is provided to address education and behavioral needs. Eligibility for the following courses is determined by the Evaluation Team.
This class meets the unique needs of students by providing explicit instruction for their academic, functional and transition needs in a small group setting. The specialized instruction for this class is focused on skill remediation and strategies to be successful and independent in their general education classes. Enrollment in this class is based on an IEP team.
This program is specific to special education students who meet the state criteria for alternate assessment. The Life Skill Program focuses on developing independence in the areas of functional academics, vocational, communication and adult living skills. Instruction is individualized to each student's needs and is aligned to the state Essential Elements, Self Determination, Citizenship and Work Readiness standards. Functional academics may include basic math skills in real world situations, clear communication skills, understanding informational and recreational text. In addition, goal setting, interpersonal skills, self care, career exploration and trials are key components of the program. Enrollment in this program is based on an IEP team decision.
This class helps students learn about the world of work by developing work readiness skills. Students will explore career clusters through interest inventories, virtual job shadowing, and school based experiences. The class focus is on pre-employment skills such as identifying interests, personal strengths and needs, social skills and self advocacy to promote a successful transition to work. Students may participate in supported community based volunteer trial work experiences. Enrollment in this class is based on an IEP team decision.
The Transition Academy’s focus is to provide adult students with disabilities direct instruction in prevocational and employability skills, personal safety, daily living skills, community access and exploration. Students are provided with opportunities and experiences in a supportive environment to develop their interests, abilities, and independence through using a standards-based differentiated curriculum. The program provides a platform for the generalization and application of acquired skills so that students may gain independence, paid employment and participate as active, healthy, and productive members of their communities. Enrollment in this program is based on an IEP team decision.
