We utilise the Universal Framework to provide a consistent language for skills across the entire programme. We move beyond guesswork by embedding robust measurement tools directly into our workflow to track ‘distance travelled’:
To ensure this project is delivered to a high standard, we focus on two key areas: building the expertise of our team and using robust tools to measure progress.
1. Building Team Expertise We take a ‘train the trainer’ approach to upskilling our staff. By training our team to become experts in the Skills Builder method, we ensure they have the confidence and knowledge to teach and evaluate these skills effectively. This builds lasting expertise within our charity, ensuring that our team can deliver high-quality support that continues long after the grant period ends.
2. Measuring Impact We use the Universal Framework to ensure everyone uses the same simple language for skills. We move beyond guesswork by using three clear tools to track the distance a participant travels:
Baselining: We use the Skills Builder Benchmark, a verified online tool. This allows participants to assess their level at the start and end of the project, helping us identify exactly what they need to work on.
Real-Time Tracking: Participants keep reflective logs to record specific times they have used a skill, ensuring that progress is captured as it happens.
Integrated Reflection: We include questions in our sessions that ask individuals to explain how they are developing these skills alongside their technical tasks.
This data-driven approach allows us to plan the specific next steps an individual needs. By linking these skills to real-life situations, we ensure they are not just learned in theory, but are practically applied to improve education and employment outcomes.
