Welcome 2022, What a year!

It's been a really busy year for us at Guardian Angel Daycare. We've had a lot of changes happening in the last 5 weeks and we want to thank you for your patience and support every day. I wanted to give you an update on how the daycare is doing and some of the changes we are going to see our way.

We are still in the process of hiring a new Director of Curriculum, a full-time receptionist, and teachers. In the meantime, the teachers at GAD are working extra hours, covering different classrooms and in the front office in order to maintain a good balance and to keep the daycare open.

You have probably seen Miss Mary and Miss Vickie in the front office every morning welcoming your child(ren) and Miss Sarah in the afternoon when you pick up your child. This has allowed me to balance my day-to-day activities in the classrooms, manage the daycare, and also my personal life.

All families of Infant - 4th Graders students are required to re-register for the 2022/2023 school year. I will be sending an email at the end of this month with the application and tuition information. The first day of school is August 15, 2022.

We are in the process of evaluating if we are going to have a summer program for existing Kindergarten - 5th Grade students. If you would like to work with us or volunteer for the summer. We are hiring 4 full-time teachers. Please email me directly.

For students currently enrolled in the Infant - Prek4 classrooms, we will send an email with summer enrollment information at the end of the month as well.

GAD currently has (1) one COVID-19 case. We continue to ask parents to follow GADC COVID guidelines and reinforce those guidelines with their kids at home. For our PreK-3 - 5th Grade students, masks are mandatory. We will continue to remind your child(ren) to ensure their mask is covering their nose and mouth. If your child's mask is too big/small and is not protecting them, we will provide them with a new mask. If your child(ren) refuses to wear a mask, he/she will be sent to the front office and we will ask you to pick them up.

Here are a few housekeeping items that we would like to remind everyone:

  • At drop off please assist your child(ren) enter the daycare not only through the first set of doors but into the lobby. There are times when I don't have an extra teacher to assist me when students are being dropped off and they are waiting in between the double sets of doors.

  • At pick-up, please call us only 5 minutes before arriving to let us know you are on your way to pick up your child(ren). Sometimes we have more than 5 students waiting in the lobby and it can get a little rowdy.

  • I also want to thank you for being patient with us if at times your call is not answered immediately when you call to pick-up, or if your child is not in the lobby waiting for you when you arrive. Students are required to clean up their areas, gather their belongings, and then walk to the front office for pick up.

  • Older students will be allowed to leave the daycare when they see mom and dad outside of the double set of doors. We want to keep your child(ren) safe and we want to avoid accidents. We understand how excited and happy they are to go home and some students want to run out and jump in their car, but please help us keep all students safe.

  • Our drop-off and pick-up setup is not like Bell Tower circle in the Elementary. Do not block the exit or entrance of the parking lot while you wait for your student. Please use the parking spaces and walk up to the doors to pick up your child(ren).

  • Please do not allow your child to bring toys, money, or expensive items to the center. It is difficult for children to share their own toys. If we find toys from home, they will be kept at the front desk until Mom or Dad picks them up. We are not responsible for any lost or stolen items.

  • After 3:30pm SJB Elementary is closed. If your child left something in their lockers or their classrooms, please let them know they will have to wait until the next day to pick it up.

  • We will be cleaning our lost and found items this Monday, February 7th.

February 14th - Red & Pink Dress Day. Valentines Day Festivities

If your child would like to bring a Valentines treat for the class, please have your student write his or her name. We do not have the children address the Valentines because that makes passing them out a bit tricky for the children. We will be making a Valentine bag in class. You do not need to make a box or bag at home.

We have created a sign-up genius for our Valentine's day celebration. Please bring items to the front office before Friday.

Thank you in advance for your flexibility and willingness to help.

Weather changing and Dress code Policy

All children who do not attend St. John the Baptist should be dressed in comfortable play clothes. Please avoid clothes that need to be kept clean or it is difficult for your child to pull up and down on their own; please keep dress-up clothes (costumes) at home. Rubber-soled shoes are recommended as safest for climbing and vigorous play for outside time. Also, please make sure your child has dressed appropriately for the weather (i.e. closed-toed shoes, sunblock, light jacket, etc) as we do venture outside to play each day.

PreK-4 and older children must remain in their uniforms while in the daycare unless it is a No-School day. Guardian Angel Daycare is not responsible for lost or stolen clothing items. The children will go out to recess as long as it is above 20 degrees outside and the air quality in Orange, Yellow, or Green.

Social Media

On occasion, Guardian Angel students are photographed during activities, events, etc. and the picture(s) may be used in a newspaper article, advancement newsletter, on social media, etc. Pictures published can also be accessed by the Salt Lake Diocese Utah Catholic Schools office to use for social media purposes, advertising, brochures, and recruitment. If you do not want your child’s photograph to be used throughout the 2021-2022 School Year, please notify me in writing or by email (vanessamorales@skaggscatholiccenter.org) immediately.

LUNCH SET-UP CHANGES FOR PREK-4 - 5TH GRADERS

Dear Parents/Guardians;

In order to mitigate the spread of COVID and to keep our staff and students safe, effective today Wednesday, February 2, 2022, we will be using the MPR room in the Elementary to provide lunch for all of our K-5th Grade students.

We have about 24-28 students every Wednesday in each of our extended care classrooms. Due to the number of students in each class and the way our classrooms are set up in the past we had 8 students per table during lunchtime. We want to create more distance with each student during the times they are unmasked and that is the reason why we are making this change.

In order to make this transition smoothly please review this email with your child(ren).

LUNCH IN THE MPR FOR K-5TH

  • Your child(ren) will be dismissed to GADC at 12:30 pm. They will come and check in to their respective classrooms, put backpacks away and wash their hands to get ready for lunch.

  • At 12:50 PM they will walk to the MPR room where Mrs. Angela and Miss Angie will be ready to serve lunch.

  • If your child brought home lunch they will sit in their designated area right away.

  • We will have 4 students per table and the same students will sit together every week.

  • At 1:30 PM students will return to the daycare to resume their regular schedule/activities after cleaning their areas.

LUNCH FOR PREK4 STUDENTS ONLY

Lunch will also be different for our Prek4 students. We will be breaking up the students into 2 classrooms for lunch, half of them will have lunch in the Arch Angels room and the other half in the Blue Eagles classroom. This will allow 4 students per table and create a space in between them during lunch to mitigate the spread of COVID.

Change is always inevitable and with change, there is always a period of adaptability.

Note: AM Snack and PM snack will be eaten in the classroom or outside weather permitting. We give students 10min each day to eat their snack and according to the CDC and the Health Department, there is less risk if a student is unmasked for a short period of time.

Thank you again for your flexibility and understanding. We love your child(ren) and my staff is doing the best we can to manage through all the changes that come our way.
