Kapa Haka 2021
E nga mana, e nga reo, e nga rau rangatira ma. Tihei Mauri ora!
Tena tatou katoa
This year we acknowledge the passing of past principal and rangatira Richard Puanaki. Our bracket is a dedication to Richard as kai waiata tito and kaumatua. Richard gave over 47 years of service to the Church, an active member of Tawhiti a Maru and Erepeti Marae and a rangatira in our community of Wairoa.
E te rangatira moe mai, moe mai e moe!
Whakaeke: Ka Waiata ki a Maria a universal song to Mother Mary, a beautiful, loving, and peaceful woman. This waiata is a description of the many kuia and whaea significant in our lives.
Waiata a ringa: Tawhiti a Maru E is a waiata the whanau sung to support Richard as kaikorero. A waiata whakangahau we continue to sing to embrace manuhiri.
Poi: Tenei te Kohine was composed by Richard in remembrance of St Therese of Lisieux when her relics came to Wairoa in 2006 and our church that stands next to our marae.
Haka: Pirangi tonu Au, originally composed by Richard for his tupuna Pourangahua. Permission was given by Richard for this haka to be used by Tawhiti a Maru Marae and St Joseph's School. Ko Ihu Karaiti e follows in recognition of Richard's belief and love as is ours in Jesus.
Whakawatea: Ko Te Papa was recorded this year in acknowledgement of the Year of Joseph. Richard gifted this waiata to Tawhiti a Maru Hui Aranga roopu to perform. This is a waiata for us all to acknowledge those papa and matua who are important to you.
Lastly we thank our tutors Conan Doyle and Melissa Paul who both had the privilege of working with and under the guidance of Richard over many years together. These waiata and others will continue to be sung and performed by generations to come.
No reira, tena koutou, tena koutou, tena tatou katoa.
