First Semester Guide : understand your program's progression and grading policies, expectations, curriculum, and how to prepare for course registration.
All new students at SJU Lancaster work with the Office of Undergraduate Advising Support to register for their first-semester courses. Students can reach out to Undergraduate Advising Support by visiting Ask an Advisor.
The Lancaster Advising Support website has lots of helpful information and resources. Click on the menu bars (three lines at the top right of the home page) to see options about advising resources, registration tools, forms, and how to contact us.
The Academic Calendar has all the important dates and deadlines you need to know during the semester.
Dropping a course means reducing classes in your schedule within the first week of classes. Check the Academic Calendar (see above tab) to see when the drop/add period ends for each semester. There is no academic or financial penalty for dropping a class within the drop/add timeframe (you aren't charged for a course you drop, and nothing shows on your transcript).
Withdrawing from a course causes both academic and financial impact to the student. Students must complete a Course Withdraw Form, which requires advisor approval. The Academic Calendar lists the final day you can withdraw from a course. When you withdraw from a course, it shows as a W on your transcript, although it does not affect your overall GPA. You will be charged for the class based on the Tuition Fee and Refund schedule.
