This document outlines common writing errors in grammar, punctuation, and potential inconsistencies in formatting.

I.E.E.E. /LaTeX Accepted Format

The College of Graduate Studies has an approved Engineering I.E.E.E. LaTeX format github template which can be found here. An Important Note:  You must update your references to the most current I.E.E.E. format.  If you do not choose to use this particular LaTex tool, your thesis must nonetheless conform to this approved style. This is an example of what a technical paper should look like [pdf]. AGAIN, update your references to the most recent styleNote, APA is not a suitable format for Engineering or Science disciplines.

Preliminary (Front) Pages - Required Formatting

To adhere to Rule 14 of the 14 Formatting Rules, it is helpful to see how your front pages should be structured and numbered. Important Note:  The following document will open up in Google Docs.  Download it from there as a Word document.  Here is Word document with a title page, copyright page, committee approval page, abstract, acknowledgments, three accepted formats of a Table of Contents, Table of Titles, and Table of Figures.  Although this document is not a template, you can use it as a starting point.  Use only one choice of the Table of Contents applicable to your heading styles.  You can see how the finalized preliminary pages should look by viewing this pdf document

UPDATE NOTE:  Montezuma has posted an APA template for any student using APA 7th that conforms to our 14 Rules of Formatting, and will set you up correctly to structure your paper.  If you are going to use APA 7th, PLEASE SEE THIS WEBPAGE AND USE THIS TEMPLATE.

Spacing

Theses and dissertations must use single- and double-spacing only.  Many Word programs and templates insert spaces before or after in their "paragraph" settings.  This creates additional spaces within the work, which are not allowed.  Spacing before and after should be set to "0" and line spacing should be either double or single space as required for your work.
