Membership Tiers
The SAA chapter at San José State is excited to offer a tiered membership program designed to empower your journey towards becoming a hearing healthcare professional. With only 5 hours of commitment, you can boost your resume by earning an SAA certificate of engagement!
Inner Hair Cell (IHC) Tier:
The highest membership tier possible!
Dedicated 10+ hours of commitment to our SAA chapter by the end of the membership cycle.
Benefits: Enjoy complimentary membership dues for the following membership cycle, plus a certificate of engagement that you can include in your CV/resume!
Outer Hair Cell (OHC) Tier:
Dedicated between 5-9 hours of commitment to our SAA chapter by the end of the membership cycle.
Benefits: Earn a certificate of engagement that you can include in your CV/resume!
How to obtain hours:
Attend General Meetings: Stay informed and connected.
Dive Deeper: Attend SAA events (workshops/keynote speaker lectures, etc..)
Give Back: Volunteer at a SAA event.
Support Our Causes: Donate your time or raise funds for an event that specifically impacts our organization's financial goals.
Extend your reach: Participate in opportunities in the community while representing our organization (SAA connected or shared event.)
How are hours recorded?
Our secretary keeps an extensive record of member attendance at all SAA events. Hours will be tallied at the end of the term and awards will be given at our annual Wrap Up Meeting!

How much is membership?
Membership is $20 and is valid from 09/01/25 - 09/01/26 (membership period).
Can I become a member any time?
Yes! You are able to become a member at any time during the membership period.
We want all students who are interested in membership to become a member. If you have financial constraints that are preventing you from paying dues now, please reach out to us via email.
Does my $20 payment to be a member of the SJSU SAA make me a member of the National SAA?
Unfortunately not. National SAA membership is a separate payment made directly to the National SAA. See the link below for more information on how to become a National SAA member!
How do I pay for my membership?
Pay cash at our welcome meeting OR email Maritza Batres, our '25 - '26 treasurer, to arrange a cash exchange at maritza.batres@sjsu.edu!
Can I still participate if I'm not a member?
Of course! However, we require a "Non-Member Fee" of $5 per event.
National SAA Membership
"Graduate students enrolled full-time in an AuD, AuD/PhD, or PhD program earning a first doctoral degree in audiology are eligible for membership with the national Student Academy of Audiology."
"Undergraduate students must be enrolled in an undergraduate program or taking post-baccalaureate classes at an accredited institution for higher learning to be eligible for undergraduate associate membership."
"The most valuable national SAA membership benefit is the student voice, heard through participation in national SAA and Academy strategic goals and activities. The national SAA provides additional member benefits that contribute to the student voice as well as the individual student member, advancing the rights, interests, and welfare for all pursuing careers in audiology."
