Dr. Yi Yuan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Audiology at San José State University. She currently teaches coursework in cochlear implants, anatomy and physiology of the central auditory system, and speech perception and language development. Dr. Yuan’s research focuses on multisensory integration in speech perception among both normal-hearing and hearing-impaired individuals. She is particularly interested in how sensory cues can be leveraged to support auditory rehabilitation. Her current work examines temporal processing in multisensory speech perception, with an emphasis on cochlear implant users and individuals with sensory deficits.

She earned her Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Florida and completed postdoctoral training in auditory electrophysiology at The Ohio State University under the mentorship of Dr. Shuman He. Dr. Yuan is passionate about bridging research and clinical practice. Her long-term goal is to develop personalized, cue-based interventions that enhance communication outcomes across diverse populations. In addition to her teaching and research, she serves as a research advisor for audiology students.

Dr. Yuan is also an active member of the Association for Research in Otolaryngology (ARO), where she contributes to the advancement of auditory science and student development in the field.
