Welcome to multi-scale modeling lab!

Prof. Shenli Zhang's research group at San Jose State University uses HPC to model solid state materials (mainly oxides) at different time and length scales. The main applications are to develop novel electronics and sustainable energy solutions. 

News & Events

• Yifei and Sameer won the 2026 Benzing fellowship award! Yifei will use the award to carry out her research on DFT calculations on transition metal oxides, and Sameer will continue to work on machine learning aided intermetallics design. Big Congratulations!

• Dr. Zhang was selected for 2026 EE Multidisciplinary Summer Academy in SJSU to collaborate with Dr. Hiu-Yung Wong on memristor research. 

• On 2026 CME GraSP day, Dikaios, Rishi and Jesus presented their research on modeling of oxides and machine learning topics.

• On 2026 CME GraSP day, Rishi won the Zee Family Scholarship, and River won the CME Promise Award.  Big Congratulations!

• Anika, Logan and River successfully presented their research poster for Project Engineering Success in spring 2026.  

• Dr. Zhang gave a talk on proton hopping in oxides and chaired the session Computational Design, Understanding, and Discovery of Novel Materials III at 2026 APS Global Physics Summit, Denver.

• Dec. 2025: Dr. Zhang joined LLNL QSG 25th anniversary and gave a talk.

• Nov. 2025: Dr. Zhang gave an invited talk online on modeling of oxides for low-power electronics at Prof. Dane Morgan's group at UW-Madison.

• Fall 2025: Four graduate students in Materials Engineering joined our lab: Dikaois Wong, Rishi Donapati, Jesus Mendoza Guiterrez and Liang-Chi Peng. Welcome!🎉

• Oct. 2025: Three undergraduate students started their research journey in Dr. Zhang's research group via SJSU Project Engineering Success. Welcome Anika, Logan and River!🎉

• Oct. 2025: Dr. Zhang gave an invited talk at Physics Department at SJSU, hosted by Prof. Christopher Smallwood.
