This semester course is a dual credit/enrollment class taken in conjunction with Missouri Western State University. Three hours of MAT 116 college credit from MWSU will be awarded upon successful completion of the course. This course considers an in-depth study of the structure of the real number system, computational skills, equation solving, and functional analysis including polynomial, rational, algebraic, exponential, and logarithmic functions. A study of graphing techniques will be enhanced through the use of graphing calculators. This course will conclude with a consideration of systems of equations, and matrices. This course aligns with the competencies and expectations required in the Missouri Pathways for a PreCalculus/Algebra course required for college degrees in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Health & Exercise Science.
A fee is required for the dual credit option.
Students will learn how to solve equations and inequalities in one variable. This will include linear, quadratic, absolute value and rational functions. Students will learn to graph and write the equations of lines and circles.
Topic I: Constructing and Solving Equations and Inequalities in One Variable.
In this unit students will learn about functions. This will include how to determine if it is a function, domain and range, transformations, operations with functions, and inverses of functions.
Topic I: Functions
Students will learn to find all real and imaginary zeros of a polynomial function. Students will also learn to graph polynomial and rational functions. Students will learn to determine the asymptotes of a rational function.
Topic I: Polynomial and Rational Functions
Students will learn to graph and solve exponential and logarithmic equations
Topic I: Exponential and Logarithmic Functions
Students will solve systems of equations algebraically and through the use of matrices
Topic I: Systems of Equations and Matrices
