The Maritime Get Together is one of the most awaited events of being a maritime student in SMET campus. It is such a happiness when students get involved, break the ice and create ties with one another.
This celebration paid off the efforts we had invested on the 47th SJIT Founding Anniversary last September 27-29, 2018. It depicted our unity and cooperation as we showcased the academy’s diverse talents.
There were lots of events participated by each club on this 2nd get together that did not only test their teamwork but also their capability to plan and decide for the victory of the team. Regardless of the striking rays of sun, each team endured and enjoyed the play.
The Navigators Club navigated the event as they obtained the title of “Best Acoustic Band”. Their performance showed how beast they can be when it comes to singing with instruments. They also portrayed their determination no matter how giddy the game was as they also clinched the top spot of “Ikot-ikot lang”.
The Marine Propeller Society Club (MAPROS) had exhibited their masculinity in the Tug of War delivering the opponents into an unforgettable lost. MAPROS propelled their weaknesses and turned it into strength bringing forth their triumph in the test-of-endurance game.
On the other side, Marine Environment Protectors Society (MEPS) revealed how resilient they can be as they won the game “Scene Me a Picture”. Their performance entertained the judges by innovating things as props in picturing the scene assigned to the participants. MEPS also dived the championship crown against the other clubs in swimming category.
Of course, the celebration will not conclude without foods. The Midshipmen Fleet Officers (MFO) who were the overall in-charge of the celebration prepared boodle fight for everyone. The foods were not that extravagant but the smiles pasted on their faces were. Consequently, it strengthens the bond of the Maritime Academy.
One of the best things about ‘MA Get Together’ is that everyone is not worried about losing; they are worried that they will miss the chance of high level of enjoyment with their fellow colleagues.
Indeed, as the facilitators quoted, this college is not only about studying ships and its nature but also how do we enjoy while learning. Alone we are strong, together we are stronger.
