“Wisdom is not a product of schooling but of the lifelong attempt to acquire it.” - Albert Einstein
The main goal of teaching is to promote learning and it is important to ensure that instructors provide the highest quality of education to the students to meet their objectives.
However, in order to attain such action, one must also be well-equipped with the knowledge that they are about to share with others.
Time is very important in this matter. As time passes by, people will tend to forget, no matter how expert they are in that field.
To address the findings issued by the private accrediting agency, Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA), the faculty of Saint Joseph Institute of Technology — Maritime Education and Training (SMET) campus visited Nasipit Port to have a tour on different domestic ships docked in the area on Thursday, February 14, 2020.
In partnership with Cokaliong Shipping Lines and Seaborne Shipping, a passenger and cargo vessels.
As per the requirement of the PACUCOA, maritime instructors of schools who are no longer on board a ship are ordered to visit various ships to be familiarized again with the components, parts and functions.
Spearheaded by the SMET Shipboard Training Officer, Chiefmate Samuel E. Lim, together with four other instructors, the team proceeded in every part of the ship particularly at the bridge and engine room to rekindle and refresh their knowledge about the different equipment, components and to realize and understand again the ways of how was being onboard given that they were long unacquainted with those things.
The instructors, with the Harbor Master, Capt. Danilo C. Dagaas, jaunted to different departments of the ship and in every visit of the varying department, they would identify where what and how the certain parts work in accordance with the operation of the ship.
Moreover, the main objective of this visit is not just to comply with the given requirement for accreditation but to also live up what SJIT’s lifelong mission is, “Deliver quality education through good leadership and management with certified standards in curriculum and instruction.”
