It was a rain of colorful confetti… the crowd, and it was jovial!
Saint Joseph Institute of Technology was in bliss to celebrate its 48th Foundation Anniversary with a theme, “SJIT@48: One Vision, One Commitment, One Challenge. A day to reminisce and honor the institution. A time to commemorate its birth and humble beginnings. A moment to reflect on the growth of the school over the last 48 years and the school’s bright future lying ahead.
It is the most awaited and significant day for all colleges for it is the time to enthusiastically raise their department’s flag to compete and display their exemplarity with the best of their abilities.
Boundless excitement and anticipations would be predominantly present on every student as they await the big day. Various activities had been planned for the week-long event in sport activities: badminton, table tennis, basketball, chess, and volleyball. For non-sport events: debate, spoken word poetry, Awit at ang Pintor, tri-hop dance competition, vocal solo, choral acapella, and battle of the brains. Everyone was seen running extra miles day and night, exhausting efforts, time, and resources.
Our future mariners invested more than sweat. It’s passion and hard work though at times, less of a talent. There are loud voice coming out from the side of the campus, giving a command with firm voice at a uniform cadence while prolonging the syllables. Marching, moving of feet that whisper when most squeak, using their combat shoes. Creating a platoon to perform unique precision drill exhibition. At the front of Dormitel, wild and remix music were played for the Tri-hop dance, while in academic building, the pitch and harmony will be heard for choral acapella and a repeatedly played of ‘This is me’ for the contemporary dance. A sweet, calm, and persuading voice would emanate from the room of Oratorical and Spoken Word Poetry. A loud and raising voice in the debate room marks the team’s intimidation factor. Lastly, heart-pounding drills can be witnessed as the athletes defy the fatiguing practice in the windy environment adjacent to the coast of Nasipit.
Everyone was more than ready to show-off their piece, dance moves, submissive, vocal blending, strokes and all fruits of their hard labor.
During the Foundation Day, the lighted torch marked the clash of colors. The Great White Sharks from the College of Maritime Education never failed to support their players and participants with their compulsive cheer and trumpets. Going to the court when MA got score in Basketball. Teasing and bantering the opponent in Mobile Legends getting their character killed off by their teammates. Each of the participants gave their high decibel performances and their provocative stage image. MA-lakas (Maritime Academy-Force) was more than triumphant.
As the two-day celebration concluded, winners were announced. The Great White Sharks garnered a bunch of six golds, and several silver and bronze. A good start to continue to rise and prove that being competitive is in the vein of Maritime. This will drive us to exert more, to be the best of what we can be. MA bring home the silver crown title.
The sharks came stronger, expect our jaws to hunt for the gold crown next founding anniversary!
