“You have the best career and the best company.”
Rajmohan Ventikewaran, Director Marine HR Teekay Tankers , assured 15 Future Leaders Program cadets under Teekay Foundation on their choices of the maritime profession under Teekay Corporation.
Accompanied by Vijay Kumar, Teekay PMMG Manager and Gilbert Maturan, Teekay Global Training Standards and Competence Manager, Rajmohan’s opening words prompted the onset of interaction last February 13, 2019.
A deck cadet raised a query on the current performance of Teekay in the maritime industry which paved Rajmohan’s elaboration on the statistics of Teekay Tankers.
He was particular about the challenges of the fleet on the income loss for the past two years which is causal on the purchase of ships rather than company construction – despite the latter concern, he asserted that the fleet is gaining its momentum aimed to ascend its earnings this 2019 and the succeeding years where cadets under the fleet are expected to become competent officers.
There had been a talk about female workforce in the company cracked from a cadet where he then exemplified a low female population and that there is a need for more. He also added about a stereotype-free industry where only an employee’s competency or incompetency would be the hiring factor.
Several successive questions and sharing of thoughts and experiences were conversed on both sides resulting to a good impression coming from the visitors.
“The interaction with our 15 future leaders under training there was an interesting one,” Rajmohan said.
“Some surprise and valuable questions from them was an assurance of the program. They have queries on how TK is performing, what is the women strength in sea-staff, when we will build new ships, and what innovations we are doing,” he continued.
