“Photography is the only language that can be understood anywhere in the world.” – Bruno Barbey
After the success of the poetry writing contest, the LAYAG Publication continues to keep the spirit alive as they held another contest last February 25 aiming to call out and awaken the photographers of the Saint Joseph Institute of Technology – Maritime and Training (SMET) campus. The Mobile Photography Contest having two (2) categories: midshipmen and LAYAG staffers.
The two categories had different themes to be considered for coverage. For the staffers, “Collaboration is innovation” and for the midshipmen or the non-staffers, they will be working about “Education at its best in SJIT Maritime Academy”. The participants were given a week-long preparation to get their best photos before the given date of submission. For a week, cadets were seen with their engagement and commitment as well as their determination to win. From every corner of the campus, one will be seen capturing from different angles, different perspectives in their own unique style of shots. At this point of time, their phone cameras are their best weapon!
Last Monday, March 2, the winners were announced according to their categories and were awarded certificates, medals and a “surprise” which are the plaques for the champions. It was a great experience for both staffers and non-staffers — the opportunity to capture their own understanding of the theme and to utilize the activities, facilities and people on the campus. Indeed, collaboration and creativity once again prevail amongst the cadets.
The Poetry and Mobile Photography Contest were just a kick-off start for more exciting events and activities that LAYAG publication, with the whole SMET community, will be hosting.
