Charger Band

Charger Knights Band is open to any 4th or 5th grade student who would like to learn a band instrument. Charger Knights Band meets Tuesdays and Fridays from 2:50-3:35 p.m., with a supervised homework/snack time from 2:40-2:50 p.m. If there is an early out on a Tuesday or Friday, we will not hold rehearsal.

Charger Knights Band is a graded class. Assessments will be based upon weekly lessons, band rehearsal participation, concert performances, and weekly practicing. Students will learn technique, tone, rhythm, posture, pitch, and musical expression. In order to be successful and excel at their instrument, students will need to practice at home.

Students enrolled in Charger Band will also be placed in a virtual Google Classroom where they will receive information pertaining to concerts, music, etc.

Lessons

All students enrolled in both Charger and Middle School Band are required to take lessons. These are taught by Mr. Pierce and allow for individual instruction, tailored to the student and their skillset with the goal of mastering their instrument.

Lesson Books

Students will utilize the Standard of Excellence lesson books for instruction. Standard of Excellence (SOE) is one of the most complete and most widely used band methods available. It combines music theory, music history, ear training, and multi-cultural studies with a strong performance-centered approach to learning. Each student book features colorful highlighted sections when a new fingering, rhythm, or musical concept is introduced, making these new skills visually stimulating.
