Community for Environmental Literacy Summit

EVENT INFORMATION

The purpose of the Community for Environmental Literacy Summit (CELS) is to bring together the SJCOE environmental literacy networks (YEL, TEL, CPEL and GEL) and other interested individuals to learn, share and connect with nature in order to improve environmental literacy throughout San Joaquin County and Region 6.

Forestry Basics

Audience | High School Students and 9-12 Educators

Description | In this workshop participants will learn and utilize basic forestry tools to collect data and make informed decisions. Information about the Forestry Challenge will also be shared.

Blue River: What can the flow and patterns of a river tell us about a watershed?

Description | Join the California Project WET (Water Education Today) program in a physical simulation of annual river flow and explore actual stream flow data of California streams to learn about season trends in their watershed.

Description | Join the California Department of Water Resources in a workshop to learn about why the Central Valley is always in a drought. Additional information about water quality will be discussed. Take home educator resources to bring this back to your classroom.

Greater Valley Conservation Corps

Map of Durham Ferry

Maps will be provided on site but use the map to familiarize yourself with where to park when you arrive and where different summit events will be located.

Be sure to wear comfortable, closed toed shoes and bring a water bottle with you. The weather can be unpredictable so we recommend wearing layers and sunscreen and bringing a hat.

If you need help locating anything the day of event staff will be dressed in light green t-shirts.
