6th grade is currently studying:

RELIGION

What are the original building blocks of our faith?  Who wrote the Bible, and what does it tell us about where we come from, and how we should live our lives?

We're engaging with scripture by discussing our weekly Mass readings as we dive in to understanding exactly how the Bible tells stories, and what we're meant to learn from them.  Recently we've been discussing God's call to stewardship and what it means in our lives.

We also have a great time doing acts of stewardship for and with our 1st-grade buddies!

READING

We're beginning this year by digging into Alone, our summer reading book.  We'll talk about what happened in the book, write about our reactions, and learn new vocabulary as well as exploring some of the themes for this upcoming school year.

Our first Independent Reading project has been assigned!  Students are picking out their books this week and should be ready to start reading by the week of September 7.  Students should make sure to split their independent reading book into thirds, and be prepared to submit a reflection on each section before they start reading the next one.

SCIENCE

What is science?  How do we ask questions, and what tools do we have to find answers?

We will begin our  exploration of science with the Scientific Method before diving into our study of geology and geography.

SOCIAL STUDIES

Our study of world history begins at the beginning!  We're diving right in with the Stone Age, talking about cave paintings, the invention of tools, and how the first humans spread out across the entire planet.
