About Ms. Waroway
Updated December 2024
Ms. Waroway has been teaching for 27 years. 25 of those years has been at St. John Brebeuf School in Winnipeg.
As a classroom teacher, Ms. Waroway enjoyed helping all of her students form an appreciation of literature and math. However, she continued to search for effective ways to support students with processing differences as well as cognitive challenges.
Following discoveries and understandings of how the brain learns to read (educational neuroscience), Ms. Waroway was inspired to obtain a Master’s degree in Education and Certification as a Reading Clinician. During this journey, Ms. Waroway also received training in Orton Gillingham multisensory methods (now known as the Science of Reading or Structured Literacy) offered by the Reach Learning Centre out of British Columbia.
As a Certified Reading Clinician, and Resource teacher (also known as a Student Support Teacher), Ms. Waroway’s diverse training experiences enable her to develop models of learning which reflect students' needs. Ms. Waroway enjoys the challenge of being immersed in the trenches with classroom teachers each day to support staff, students, and parents.
Ms. Waroway is especially grateful for the ongoing support and encouragement of the St. John Brebeuf School school and parish community.
One of Ms. Waroway’s favourite quotes is by Louisa Moats: "Teaching reading is rocket science."
Ms. Waroway hopes all of her students will develop reading processing skills as well as the comfort which can come from reading and writing for pleasure.
One of the informal and fun ways Ms. Waroway applies her knowledge of educational neuroscience is by volunteering to instruct extracurricular beginner violin.
