The homework program is designed to instill a sense of responsibility in every student while strengthening their basic numeracy and literacy skills. As per the St. John Brebeuf Parent & Student Handbook, students in grade 2 will have approximately 30 minutes of homework daily.
Each Friday, your child will be receiving a homework package. The main format of the package will be: 1-2 pages of math review, 1 page of language arts review, and a book report / check-in sheet. The homework package will be distributed in a folder labelled “Homework Folder.” This folder is to be returned the following Thursday.
Please note that additional projects or assignments may be assigned throughout the week, but advance notice will be given.

Login Information
Students will be sent home with a page of all pertinent login information. Please make sure to keep it in a safe place where it will be easily accessible.
As part of the homework package, there will also be a short book report or a check-in sheet to record your child’s reading. This is to be completed weekly. It is recommended that your child reads a minimum of 15 minutes every night at least 4-5 times a week.
On Tuesdays, I will send home 1 home reading book for the week as well as assign 2 online books via Raz Kids. I ask that you listen to your child read those books or have them read to an adult. This is to ensure they are reading and working on their literacy skills. I will send home a folder with a weekly book report / reading check in sheet to help us monitor your child’s reading.
Each Monday, I ask that you have your child return the 1 hard copy book that will be sent home so I can replenish the class library and send home a new book the next day. If your child is done the books early, they are welcome to return them on Fridays (before the weekend).
We will also have library classes once a cycle in which the students will be able to take home one book.
In grade 2, the spelling program is individualized to each student. Your child will receive a new list each Friday and be given a test on the following Friday. These words are to be studied at home in preparation for their weekly test.
In addition to the weekly math homework sheets, students are welcome to login into Mathletics to help further support their learning. This website is there as extra practice and is not mandatory nor will it be marked.
If your child is struggling in a certain area or subject in class, I will create an individualized booklet for your child to work on at home. This is to help ensure that your child is getting the extra time, support, and practice that they may need in a certain area or topic.
I have added a variety of extra links on the "resources and links" tab above for you and your child to look at. These extra websites are not mandatory but are there for extra support and learning opportunities. I will send home login codes for all the websites linked.
