Maths
Volume & Capacity
In Maths we are learning about objects that are heavier or lighter than another by making estimations and checking with scales.
We are also learning about which objects will hold more or less - whether it be rice, pasta, blocks or sand. We listened to the story "Goldilocks and the Three bears" and compared the different size containers.
2D & 3D Shapes
This past week we've revised 2D Shapes and have explored 3D Objects! We've looked at cubes, rectangular prisms, cones and spheres and explored how many faces, edges and points they each have. We had heaps of fun making 2D & 3D Shapes using toothpicks and blue tack.
Revision!
We have learnt so much in maths this semester!! We've learnt about repetitive patterns, addition, subtraction, 2D shape, length, data just to name a few!! This week in maths, we are taking a moment to revisit and revise topics we have learnt about before the holidays begin!
All about Data!
Over the last 2 weeks, we've learnt about Data! We've learnt how to ask simple questions e.g. how many pets to do you have? and transforming that data into a simple pictograph or a bar graph. One of our favourite lessons was going outside and counting the colour car driving past and then using this to make a bar graph!
Place Value
In Maths the last couple of weeks, we've focused our learning on Place Value. We've used bundling sticks to help our learning. We've learnt that ten ones = 1 ten.
In the picture you can see that there are 8 Tens and 9 Ones to make the number 89.
Learning about Length
In Maths this week we've started learning about measuring the length of an object. In Foundation we use informal units of measurement e.g. unifix blocks or our hands to measure - not rulers. Students found different objects to first estimate the length and then checked their answer using unifix blocks
Exploring Number
In Foundation, we have explored numbers by learning and playing games. We have ordered numbers and played memory where we have to match the digit to how many dots it is.
Counting Songs
We love counting in Foundation!! We start our Maths lessons with these 2 counting songs. We love the Big Numbers Song as we can count all the way to 1 Trillion!
