Welcome to St. Johnsbury Academy Jeju high school. The high school department serves students in grades 9 to 12 and parallels our home school St. Johnsbury Academy in Vermont, which has a rich 178-year history of academic excellence, character building, and inquiry education. As your new high school principal, I look forward to carrying on this tradition.

As we begin the 2024-2025 school year, I would be remiss if I did not mention the unprecedented Advanced Placement results from last year which places our school as the top AP school in Korea. Last year, 230 SJA Jeju students took AP exams. Combined, they took over 519 AP exams earning college credit in 94.41% of all exams. 83% of our students scored a 4 or a 5 which placed them in the top 10% of students worldwide. This amazing achievement will allow SJA Jeju graduates to save millions of dollars in college tuition as US and other international colleges will grant credit that allows our students to start college with a semester of college credits. This pays off by allowing our graduates to complete college sooner or move directly to college courses that fit their major rather than taking general education courses.

Much like the fertile soil of island of Jeju itself, St. Johnsbury Academy Jeju excels at nurturing all students to grow to their fullest potential. This growth is not just centered on helping students to succeed in high school, but also to develop the necessary habits and skills to be successful at exclusive universities around the world. Academically,  we offer a wide variety of core classes - English, History, Math, Science - as well as a large number of elective courses in Art, Global Language, Filmmaking, Engineering, and Computer Science.

Academic success is important; however, students also need to develop 21st Century skills such as  self advocacy, collaboration, problem solving, risk taking, and creativity  in order to be successful in a post secondary environment. As such, students learn these skills explicitly in each of our courses. These skills are also nurtured through our daily advisory program - a time when students meet in small groups with an advisor to build community and hone skills that are expected of all university students. Finally, academic study and 21st century skills come together in an exciting cumulative Senior Capstone project. With the Capstone project, students not only demonstrate the depth and scope of their academic learning but also tackle new challenges to demonstrate their ability to learn and acquire new knowledge and skills.

Our highly qualified faculty come from all over the world and provide our students with a multicultural global perspective. Additionally our small class sizes and personalized advisory periods allow our teachers to provide more one-on-one support while creating a strong community for our students as they progress through high school.

As the High School principal, I am privileged and honored to be a part of the St. Johnsbury Academy Jeju community. During the upcoming school year, we will continue to provide the best quality education for every student and looking forward to helping each student to reach their highest potential.

Please feel free to explore our website and learn more about our school.

Warm Regards,

Gregg Shoultz, PhD
