Swing Choir
Swing Choir is a small, auditioned extracurricular choir open by audition to 7th and 8th grade music students. In most cases, the student will be enrolled in a vocal or instrumental ensemble at ZWest. The choir focuses on jazz, swing, traditional, and popular music, paying close attention to authentic performance style and presentation. Auditions are held within the first few weeks of school for the current year. Students should listen for announcements to find out more information.
Private Voice Lessons
Private voice lessons are offered during the choir class period depending on the availability of teachers; or they are available outside the school day. Voice lessons are highly encouraged and are a fun and excellent way of developing one’s vocal, musical, leadership, and public presentation skills, as well as instilling a sense of greater self-confidence. Contact your director for more information.
Other Performance Opportunities
Students are highly encouraged to seek out musical and performance opportunities outside the school also. Church choirs, community theater, and organizations such as Indianapolis Children’s Choir are great ways to put to further use the skills and concepts we develop in class, thereby strengthening not only the individual but the rest of our choir as well.
