Political Economy for Public Policy (Undergraduate)
This course provides an introduction to basic game theory and explores three significant themes: (1) the normative foundations of policymaking, (2) the emergence of social dilemmas from strategic interactions and the potential for public policy to enhance social welfare, and (3) the ways in which technological, political, and institutional factors restrict policymakers and sometimes hinder the implementation of effective policies.
Political Economy of China (Undergraduate) syllabus
In this course we will examine contemporary Chinese political economy. We will begin with a brief overview of Chinese political history since the collapse of the Qing dynasty, then discuss the reform era beginning in 1978. We will address the contemporary political system in China, the role of the Chinese Communist party, the relationship between politics and economy, and conclude with a discussion of the policy challenges China faces.
Math for Political Science (Graduate) syllabus
This course will provide students with a rigorous introduction to a variety of mathematical concepts relevant to advanced topics in methodology and formal theory in political science. Familiarity with this material will allow students to better understand the application of mathematical tools to problems in political science.
Topics in Formal Theory (Graduate) syllabus
This course is an advanced game theory course, we will discuss several topics in political economy. The first half of the course will focus on dynamic programming, and the second half will discuss some specific topics in political economy.
