The B³ Lab—Biomaterials, Biointerfaces, and Biophysics Laboratory—focuses on understanding and engineering soft materials and biomolecular systems at the interface of materials science, biology, and physical chemistry. 

• Adaptive Biomaterials

Design of hydrogels, polymers, and bioinspired materials with programmable mechanical, transport, and biological functions. 

• Biointerfaces and Molecular Assembly 

Investigation of molecular interactions governing protein, polymer, cellular, and material interfaces.

• Biophysics in Health and Diseases 

Mechanistic studies of protein folding, aggregation, phase separation, and disease-associated biomolecular systems.

• Data-Driven Materials Design

Integration of molecular simulations, machine learning, and experiments for predictive design of materials and biomolecular systems. 

• Award (04/2026): Dr. Zheng has been elected as a Fellow of American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), recognizing his outstanding contributions to the field and his leadership and innovation in advancing biomedical and biomaterials research.
