The Sections of The Project
Introduction to the Project by the Members of the Group (10 pts.)
In the introduction, address the reader(s) of the project and explain the purpose of doing a project in English. Present what the project is about.
The Rationale for Choosing to Invite ( name of the guest) to Our Dinner Party (10 pts.)
Each contributor to the project writes his /her own rationale and includes the following: state who the two people are that they are inviting and the reason for inviting them to dinner. Add the goal of writing about this individual - perhaps researching a theory, point of view or perspective that the guest adhered.
Biography, Achievements and a Personal Opinion (25 pts,)
For each guest, write a short biography of his / her life, which you MUST write in your own words. DO NOT PLAGIARIZE or COPY word for word from another written text. Include a summary of his or her most significant achievement and give your opinion of the person.
The Interview (15 pts.)
Interview your guest to find out about his / her life, family history and achievements. In order to write the interview, study the guest’s biography. The interview should have at least 10 questions to it.
Choose One of the Following Tasks to Add to your Project (10 pts.) My Presentation
Each contributor chooses one of the following creative writing tasks to add to the project.
Design the invitation to the dinner party. Make it appealing and decorative.
Write the dinner menu for the 3-4 course dinner you plan to give. Explain why you chose each item. It may be similar to the kind of meal your guest would eat or it may be your favourite meal, prepared by you, your mother or grandmother.
Write a diary entry describing how the dinner went. Make it different from the diary entry written by another group participant. Say what was successful and what was less successful. Remember to write about what the guests discussed. Focus on the person you invited.
Write a thank you letter received from one of the guests at the dinner party.
Conclusions (10 points)
Each participant, writes why they think their particular guest was significant in their field.
A Personal Reflection on Doing a Project in English (5 pts)
Each contributor prepares their own reflection.
State how long you spent researching, reading, drafting and getting your final presentation ready. It may take you a week or two.
State what you think you achieved in terms of specific knowledge by studying and preparing a project about a Special Guest. Did you find out anything surprising? If so what surprised you?
State whether or not the project helped you to develop your English and how it helped. For instance, did you enhance your vocabulary? How did you manage with difficult words and phrases that were in the articles you read? Do you think your written style improved? In what ways?
How have your computer tools skills expanded? Did you learn to format a page in English (from left to right)? Did you use language correction tools such as spell-check, grammar and punctuation checks?
Lastly, state whether you think this is a good way to study English and why you think this.
