April 26th-27th, 2025
The Yuma County chapter of Pheasants Forever is partnering with The Nature Conservancy and Colorado Parks and Wildlife the to offer a youth turkey hunt for new hunters. This is a family event where youth hunters and their parents will learn the necessary skills to become successful turkey hunters. Applications to participate in the hunt are now being accepted. Youth hunters and their adult guardians will arrive at a ranch south of Yuma, Colorado on the morning of April 26th. After registering the day will be filled with activities that include turkey biology, calling, hunting tactics, shotgun patterning and much more to prepare the participants for the turkey hunt. Hunters will then spend the night camping ( wall tents will be provided if you do not have a tent) so they can get up early to chase a turkey on The Nature Conservancy’s Fox Ranch the next morning. Each hunter will be paired with a guide on the morning of April 27th. The hunt should finish up by 2:00 pm . This hunt is set up for novice turkey hunters, so you do not need to have any equipment or turkey hunting knowledge. The focus of this program is to teach the necessary skills to start turkey hunting and is not focused on harvest success. All of the meals and equipment will be provided for the hunt but you can use your own if you have it. If you meet the requirements and are interested in participating please complete the application packet and submit it in by the deadline of April 1st. All applications will be reviewed to make sure they meet the qualifications. Spaces are limited so spots will be filled based on qualifications, and hunting experience in the order they are received.
