Shinto Muso-ryu Jōdō Yōsyunkan
Message from Kazuo Iseki
I started learning Jōdō at age 53 under Shigeharu Matsuda Sensei( 8 th-dan, the president of Kansai Jōdō Organization).
In 2004 when I was 67 years old, I built my own dojo on piece of my land in Amagasaki , Hyogo prefecture. I named this dojo “Yōsyunkan”.
The name Yō-syun-kan stems from two things. One is my father’s name Yoshitaka who was a teacher of Judo. The other is Karate-dojo’s name Yōsyukan where I studied Karate when I was a student.
Our dojo which is mostly made up of wood inside also has wooden floors spanning about (90㎡) or in Japanese measurements 50 jo.
Nowadays Matsuda Sensei and Morimoto Sensei(8 th-dan, the committee member of Japan Kendo Organization) teach us.
I think that Jōdō is very good for all people even elderly people(retired) because this art’s movement is smooth and flowing and doesn’t require a lot of force or over use of energy. I also think that it’s good for women even if they do not have any prior material arts experience because it will help improve their posture and much more.
As of April, 2015 the number of students has reached to 28. Currently we have 20 men and 8 women ranging from age 27-86 and additionally we have 1 American.
I hope that Yōsyunkan would be a little help for people who want to make good relationships with others, improve health, and better life.
