Article of the Week

This section is inspired by the work of Kelly Gallagher and his creation of the article of the week assignment. Other teachers, both on island and my digital colleagues, have added to this effort as well. My own Article of the Week assignment is an amalgam of learning from these wonderful professionals.

Directions: This assignment is given every Monday and collected every Friday, even on holidays. You will find individual assignments on Google Classroom. First, read and annotate the article. Sometimes you will be asked to read a second article, view an infographic, or view/listen to a podcast or video. Then follow the response to the article using the They Say, I Say templates, quotations, and elaboration. React to the article and identify bias, claims, opposing argument, etc. Each writing needs to be a minimum of 1.5 pages. Be prepared to discuss on Friday in class.

Use the rhetorical vocabulary slideshow as background to understanding the arguments, concepts, and ideas we will discuss.
