What is an Acronym? An acronym is a word whose letters are the first letters of other words. (Source: wiki.kidzsearch.com)
I Prefer sTEAM because the word "TEAM" is embed in it. Remember, "The complex problems faced by our society are too big for any one person to solve. So, "TEAMS" of highly educated and experienced professionals, with many different areas of expertise, must work together as a "TEAM" to solve them. The second reason is the inclusion of Art. Art encompasses many disciplines, and along with Designers, bring a different perspective to the problem solving team. (see bottom of page)
STEM
The acronym STEM means: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The STEM acronym was introduced in 2001 by scientific administrators at the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF). The organization previously used the acronym SMET when referring to the career fields in those disciplines or a curriculum that integrated knowledge and skills from those fields. In 2001, however, American biologist Judith Ramaley, then assistant director of education and human resources at NSF, rearranged the words to form the STEM acronym. (Source: Encyclopedia Britannica)
STEAM
The Acronym STEAM means: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics. Georgette Yakman is known for conducting the research and developing the STEAM educational framework. She developed the framework in 2006 and began implementation in 2007 as an MS/HS Engineering & Technology teacher. The addition of Arts to STEM to create STEAM is about incorporating creative thinking and applied arts in real situations. Art isn’t just about working in a studio. Art is about discovering and creating ingenious ways of problem solving, integrating principles or presenting information. (Source: )
