My name is John Pavan, the Home Inspector, I want to tell you about my background, and about the great job I do for my Home Inspection clients. But, have you noticed that everyone says they do the best work, care the most, and do it all for the lowest price. You know that anybody can make claims, how is a consumer to know who to believe? I want to tell you my history, because people who deliver great work and service, usually have been doing it for a long time.
Before moving to Southern Pines in 1998, I owned and ran a very successful construction firm in the Boston area. We started out doing very simple residential projects, but over time, evolved to constructing sophisticated residential projects that were featured in Boston magazine, appeared in Architectural Digest, and won numerous regional design awards. We got this type of business by working hard for years building a great reputation for providing value and service, and bending over backwards to satisfy customers.
I also have a great education background, you might think that is irrelevant for a Home Inspector, but the ability to learn and perform in school, is no different than the need to learn and perform in the Home Inspection world. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Tufts University, with twin majors in Political Science and Economics. For a few years after school I worked in the corporate finance world, but offices and airport travel weren't for me, so I decided to rejoin the construction world (I had already run my own business during college summers).
My hobby is horses (no golf yet), and during my Boston working career, I volunteered and helped run (build, organize, hire/fire, and manage finances) a riding program for handicapped kids, located in Weston, MA. After about 14 years we lost the lease on that property, and the school was forced to close. A few years later, I took an opportunity to sell my property and business and moved to North Carolina.
I started doing home renovation/rehab work for myself in Southern Pines. I kept getting asked by friends/acquaintances to "check out this house they were interested in". I decided to get my Home Inspector license, and have built a successful business. I bought and renovated a small horse property in our local horse country. I have also continued my tradition of volunteer work with local community groups. I volunteer and donate to the Walthour-Moss Foundation in Southern Pines, and have served on the Board of Directors for The Academy of Moore County charter school.
I am the type of person who has to do a good job, it literally makes me uncomfortable if I don't. When I am crawling around your attic or crawlspace, I will move the insulation aside to make sure I see whether there is any water damage under a bathroom, or, next to an attached deck. If YOU want that type of driven person working for YOU, then have me do your Home Inspection.
