At this joint effort of Operation Immunization and the Diabetes initiative, we were able to provide flu shots, blood glucose testing, and diabetes education to the community of Wadesboro.
We held a voter registration event.
We played "Diabetes Bingo" with children to increase their awareness and understanding of the disease in a fun and interactive way!
We were able to present essential information about stroke prevention and the signs and symptoms of stroke, as well as provide blood pressure screenings to patients!
We educated the seniors at Woodridge about immunizations using the aid of posters and handouts. The handouts (found on the CDC website) were used to explain some of the basic information on pneumococcal and influenza vaccine. Both vaccines were explained individually to each resident that attended the presentation. Information included: when the vaccine is recommended to take, what the vaccine is for, how it works on the body, why it is important, cost, how the disease spreads, where they can get vaccinated, and if both vaccines can be given at the same time.
In addition, facts with given about stroke as well.
We played Virus Tag with 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders, and educated these students on how a virus spreads from person to person; in order to better help them stop the spread of illness. We used glitter to represent the virus, and each child was able to tag another in order to see how easily the glitter virus was spread. This was a great opportunity for us to educate children about proper hand-washing techniques, symptoms of the common cold, and the importance of getting your annual flu shot!
SNPhA provided treats and goodies for students during final exams!
PTES goes Red for Women! We performed blood pressure screenings, as well as distributed several AHA handouts, stress balls, and health screening logs. There were also fitness challenges where patients were able to win prizes upon completion
We presented a poster and educated college athletes and their family members about the importance of HPV, meningococcal, and influenza vaccines! We were also able to give out first-aid kits, hand sanitizers, and tissues and educate them on importance of good hygiene since their immune systems can become weakened due to straining their bodies and constantly being surrounded by teammates.
The Operation Immunization co-chairs passed out hand sanitizers and tissues across the undergraduate campus. Flyers about the flu and prevention were offered to the students as well.

We held a Spring Health Fair and provided patient education on immunizations, first aid kits, and hand sanitizers!
