To create a PowerPivot data source, one option is:
Copy the data into an Excel worksheet
Select all data on the worksheet
Click on the PowerPivot tab, and click "Add to Data Model"
A "Create Table" dialog opens. You probably want to click "My table has headers" before clicking OK.
The PowerPivot window will open with the data now in PowerPivot.
One option now is to select the Home tab, then the PivotTable drop down, and select "Four Charts". Select "New Worksheet" and you will have a place in a new worksheet next to your data to create PivotTable charts.
Note that your original data now sits in a table object on the original worksheet.
When updating PowerPivot data that was created using the above method, the trick here is to update the original data in the table object without deleting the table object.
Select the data (but not the headers) in the table object and delete
Paste the new data into the table object
Resize the table object if you pasted fewer rows than originally existed
On the PowerPivot tab, select Manage. Select the Linked Table tab and click the Update All button
