iPad Deployment

When did the schools receive the iPads?

The deployment of iPads to elementary schools began on Feb. 25, 2013. With approximately 20 schools scheduled per week, the deployment was complete in 5 weeks, by early April.

2nd Deployment

In the spring of 2014, an addition 20 iPad minis were deployed to each school.

What did each school receive, initially?

20 iPads (iPad 2, 16 GB)
20 sets of charging cables/AC adaptors
2 Bretford iPad Sync Trays
Mac Mini for syncing and device management (ITS use only)
iPad Information and Resources folder

What was involved in the deployment?

delivery and set-up of the iPads by ITS on the date indicated on the schedule
a request for a Principal meeting a few days after the initial set-up, with Rebecca Rouse - Consultant, Instructional Technology JK-8, or Susan Watt - Technology Support Teacher
102 school meetings were held within this 5 week period and were affectionately nicknamed Tour d'iPad

Location of the Mac Mini

The location for the Mac Mini needs to:

be centrally located (computer lab, library, workroom)
be close to an ethernet drop
have power available for the Mac Mini and syncing trays
have a suitable surface on which to attach the Mac Mini (it will be screwed down)

Professional Development Opportunities

iPads for Learning Workshops were offered at both the Education Centre and at various school locations.
