Uploading into WeBWorK and Creating a Homework Set

In this section, we will show you how to upload a file into WeBWorK. For WPI instructors, the link to WeBWorK is https://webwork.wpi.edu/webwork2.

1. Select the Course you are teaching.

2. Log into WeBWorK.

3. Once logged in, click on “File Manager” on Main Menu on the left side of the WeBWorK page. “File Manager is under “Instructor Tools”.

You should see a page that looks like the image below after clicking File Manager.

4. Click the “Choose File” button and select the PG file you created.

5. Click the “Upload” button. You should see text highlighted in green saying that the file was uploaded successfully.

If you are adding a problem to an existing homework set, please skip Step 7.

7. Select the button for “Create a new set named:” and type in what you want the set to be called. See the image below for the location of this button.

We will go with “TutorialSet” and keep “a new empty set.” Do not include any spaces because WeBWorK does not allow spaces in set names.

8. Click the “Take Action!” button

9. Click on the number under the “Edit Problems” column

corresponding to your homework set.

a. Since we created a new set, the number should be zero. If you are adding this new problem to an already existing set, the number will be however many problems were already in the set.

b. You will be directed to a new page where you can edit the homework set you selected.

c. You can specify when you want to open the set so students can work on it, when to close the set, etc. but the purpose of this tutorial is to show how to upload the file you created with our GUI/application so we will not go into detail about the other features of WeBWorK.

10. Scroll down to the bottom and select the checkbox next to “Add 1 blank problem template(s) to end of homework set”

11. Click the “Save Changes” button. You will see a new table with one problem listed.

We made four blank problem templates: one for each of the four problems we created.

12. Under the “Display Mode” column for your problem (See below), type in the name of the file(s) you uploaded.

If you don’t remember, go back to the File Manager or open it in a new tab or window on your browser. To open in a new tab or window

ii. Select “Open link in a new tab” or “Open link in a new window” or

Hold the “Ctrl” key on your keyboard and click on “File Manager” to open it in a new tab or hold the “Shift” key and click to open in a new window.
