Eligible students will be invited to fill out a Candidate Information Form, which will provide the faculty council with information regarding service and leadership. This information will be reviewed by the faculty council and students who demonstrate exemplary scholarship, service, leadership, and character will be selected for membership.
Candidates must have a certain GPA (at least 4.5 for NHS, 4.7 for JNHS), attendance record, and behavioral record at the time of applications in order to be considered for NHS membership
Applicants are then assessed based on 5 criteria groups via the application form

Payton's National Honors Society is a coalition of high-achieving students from across the school community, and by being a part of it you gain an avenue to connect with these other students and in fact to students across the country through the collective pillars held and excellence sought. In addition to this, with acceptance into the National Honor's Society you:
Gain access to scholarships. Every year, the NHS offers its scholarship that any member can apply for and receive money from. Alongside this, NHS involvement bolsters your resume, which may be helpful in applying for other scholarships as well.
Do good and Feel good. Being part of the WPCP NHS encourages you to seek out service opportunities and provides a place to share them, leading you to do more service, interact at a meaningful level with your communities, and feel good doing it.
Get the opportunity to try new things! With service opportunities being shared out within the organization and various leadership roles in place, there is lots to try in NHS that you perhaps have never done before!
The WPCP NHS Executive Board consists of our sponsor, Ms. Cassidy, and several elected positions. In the first NHS meeting after the induction ceremony (in late Spring), elections will be held to select the NHS officers for the following year.
The President (a Senior) of Payton’s National Honor Society is asked to:
Lead all meetings, which includes scheduling and alerting members of meeting two weeks in advance
Maintain communication with NHS members
Maintain communication with outside organizations
Handle website google form (outside organizations use this to contact us!)
Lead the group in all service activities
Clear the meeting agenda with the advisor one week prior to the meeting
The Vice President (a Senior) of Payton’s National Honor Society is asked to:
Assist the president
Track member participation
Maintain NHS Website
Coordinate and plan Induction Ceremony
The Secretary of Payton’s National Honor Society is asked to:
Manage attendance and NHS member meeting participation
Support communication with NHS members around meetings, service projects, and fundraisers
Complete fundraising paperwork and track NHS funds
Have strong organizational and time management skills
Work collaboratively with your Exec board to plan events such as the Blood Drive and Service Projects
The Treasurer of Payton’s National Honor Society is asked to:
Track and manage communication for NHS member fees
Plan and coordinate one fundraiser for quarter for NHS
Coordinate purchase of stoles, tassels, and t-shirts
Coordinate distribution of Lissette Santiago Scholarship
Complete fundraising paperwork and track NHS funds
Support planning of NHS Blood Drive
Have strong organizational and time management skills
Work collaboratively with your Exec board
The Service Chairs of Payton’s National Honor Society are asked to:
Lead specific events (biannual blood drives)
Plan and coordinate service opportunities for NHS participation
Track service participation of NHS members
Support planning of NHS Blood Drive
Have strong organizational and time management skills
Work collaboratively with your Exec board
The Tutoring Chairs of Payton’s National Honor Society are expected to:
Create submission form for students to request tutoring
Organize a spreadsheet that has all the current NHS members share their availabilities and classes they want to tutor in
Check the submission form regularly to keep track of new requests
Pair up NHS members with students who have similar availability/free time (lunch periods are usually best) - send an email to both people informing them of this
Work with other clubs to find additional tutors in subjects that are low
Track tutor participation and hours logged
Triage tutoring questions from students, staff, and parents
