The blood drive occurs twice a year, once in October and once in March. Any student who is 16 or older, weighs at least 110 lbs, and is in good health is eligible to donate. (Note: 16 year olds require parental consent). Appointments should be made in advance.
Each year, NHS members work with the Best Buddies program to put on a Halloween fair for Salazar students. Members decorate Payton's first floor atrium and staff stations that teach elementary students about Halloween safety when they go trick or treating. This is also an opportunity to students who do not live in areas where it is safe to trick or treat to play games and receive candy in the spirit of Halloween.
Every year, the WPCP NHS Executive Board works with members, the school administration, and various community organizations to assemble service opportunities for our members. This ranges from volunteering at Chicago running events nearby to cleaning up nearby schools and parks to fundraisers at local restaurants. If you're interested in working on a service opportunity with us, please visit the Contact Us page.
