2nd Women in STEM-C

CREC’s Academy of Aerospace and Engineering and the Greater Hartford Academy of Math and Science, in collaboration with the Connecticut Computer Science Teachers Association (CTCSTA – www.ctcsta.org ), invite middle and high school girls to the second annual Women in STEM-C event. Women in STEM-C promises to be a fun and engaging event to promote STEM education for girls and highlight the role Computer Science plays in supporting all fields of endeavor in our digital world. This event is inspired by a similar event hosted by female students from Connecticut College who created the Women in Science program to show high school girls how to enjoy themselves while applying the basic themes of science in a practical and experimental context.

Women in STEM-C will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2015 to mark the end of the Computer Science Education week. Girls will work in teams to participate in activities of their choice in the areas of Physics, Engineering, Neuroscience and Computer Science. Teams can choose to be in an activity for 50, 100 or 150 minutes. The activities will support teamwork, planning and lateral thinking. Please pass this information to any interested girls.

This is a fun STEM-C based day for girls in sixth through twelfth grades. Girls will work in teams to take part in a series of activities with a scientific slant, but also requiring teamwork, lateral thinking, organization and planning. Girls can register as individuals or in a team.

Light breakfast will be provided. Pizza and snacks will serve as lunch. Please bring anything else you might need!
