STANDARDS DOCUMENT
Aims/Purpose
This document aims to help schools develop a debate programme and sustain a debate culture. It spells out the requirements, guidelines or processes that should be in place to develop talent in this domain and to ensure that the debate culture can be passed on.
Scope
This document is intended for primary school leaders and teachers who currently have a debate club or team, intend to start one, or who have an interest in using debate as a teaching tool in the classroom to develop critical thinking, research skills and communication skills in their students.
Key Points
Five standards are identified in this document, based on relevance to Singapore’s educational context. They are: Learning and Development Assessment and Identification, Professional Practice of Teachers, Collaboration and Programme Evaluation.
