New footpath in Moreton

New footpath in Moreton

Not content with keeping footpaths well-maintained and open for all to enjoy, Brain Wagstaff, the Society’s Footpaths Officer North has created a new path in Moreton.

Brian has been working on this footpath for some time. It links Bermuda Road with the existing footpath (FP15), which runs alongside the Arrowe Brook from Broster Avenue through to Town Meadow Lane, Moreton.

Over the past two years, Brian has been introducing a variety of trees, bushes and flowers, all the way along FP15 in an attempt to increase bio-diversity of this area of land to attract more bees and butterflies.

He has also created -

‘bug hotels’ hoping for a greater diversity

shelters for bees to overwinter

areas of habitat for wildlife of all sizes.

Brian has encouraged the local Eco school, Lingham Primary, to become involved and they have planted a Royal Oak Tree, gifted by the Royal Estate. An area of land has been earmarked for the School to use as an outdoor educational classroom, but it needs to be cleared of Japanese knotweed before the children can use it.
