Fitness is a vital aspect of being a Hotshot, not only physically but mentally as well. Your safety as well as your fellow crewmembers depends on YOU being in top physical shape. Below are the MINIMUMS recommended to do this job. Know yourself and always seek improvement!
Every member of the Winema IHC is expected to arrive on the first day of work in excellent physical condition, and mentally prepared to improve his or her fitness through a daily physical training program.
These are guidelines only. Most crewmembers exceed these minimums. Applicants are strongly encouraged to maintain a rigorous physical training program during the winter and spring to prepare for the demands of firefighting and physical fitness training with the crew.
For training purposes, prospective crew members should remember that Klamath Falls is at an elevation of 4,000 feet.
