The Winchester Mayfest is a great event with lots of Morris dancing and other displays right in the centre of Winchester.

On 19th May the Winchester Mayfest will be hosting lots of Morris dance teams as usual, with opportunities to have a go yourself, and towards the end of the day there will be a mass dance for audience participation.  There will also be sword dancers and Appalachian clog dancers.

Sides dance at sites all around the centre of the city and in St Lawrence's church there will be music from two folk orchestras, the Southampton Folk Orchestra and the Hampshire Youth Folk Ensemble.

Winchester Cathedral will be hosting celebrations for Pentecost and for the Royal Wedding and our Morris dance displays will be part of the family entertainment provided in the Cathedral grounds during the afternoon.

Another highlight of the day is the Mayor's show, where dance sides will have the chance to perform for the Mayor of Winchester. This will be followed by the mass dance for you the audience to join in.  Your Have a Go at Morris Dancing opportunities will be during the day as various sides invite you to join in after their displays.

The event is a festival and is called Mayfest simply because it is run in May each year.  The Mayfest has been an event in Winchester for many years, under various guises, and we
hope that the Winchester Mayfest will continue for many more years to come.  So come to the Mayfest and see what it is all about!
