This page includes some primary sources from my research that other researchers may find useful.
Documents marked with a * are making their Internet debut (as far as I know).
Torture during the Philippine-American War
*The most notorious American user of the "water cure" during the Philippine-American War was Maj. Edwin F. Glenn. Glenn was a lawyer, and he represented himself (with Maj. Andrew H. Russell) in his court-martial hearing. His written statement is here.
(General Court-Martial #30755, Record Group 153, National Archives, Washington D.C. Made available by permission.)
*Glenn and Russell also issued a co-authored statement. (Ibid)
*Captain Samuel Lyon discusses use of the "water cure" in a letter to his wife, January 13, 1901. Note that Stuart Creighton Miller's Benevolent Assimilation (Yale UP, 1982) misquotes this letter. Available here.
(From the Samuel Lyon Papers, US Army Heritage and Education Center, Carlisle, PA.)
