Welcome! This site serves to familiarize visitors with my professional life as a teacher-scholar of international relations and U.S. foreign policy. I'm currently teaching at Bowdoin College in beautiful Brunswick, Maine. For the past two years, I've been a fellow with the International Security Program and the Project on Managing the Atom at Harvard Kennedy School's Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs. In 2016, I completed a PhD in Political Science at the University of Washington. My book manuscript on torture and the norm against it was published in early 2022 with Oxford University Press. I am also writing a second book that examines past major wars, and future nuclear ones, as self-fulfilling prophecies.
When I'm not working, I enjoy sailing, fishing, and skiing with my spouse and two children in Portland, Maine.
