SHOOTING AFFAIR BURLINGTON, NC NOV 1, 1911
Jim Workman was shot at. the
City Power House after
, midnight Saturday night by Dan
Austin, Colored,' Workman, (white) .
Ausitin, the son of O. P. Dicker.son
and Ben Shavers colored' were, at
the Power house when Workman
and Austin got into a dispute as
to which was the best man, a
, scuffle followed and as a result
Austin discharged a revoler
three times one ball entering one
of Workmans eyes and one enter
ing his' thigh. Workman was
carried to the home of his moth
er in north Burlington and medi
cal assistance summonsed. He
is in a very critical condition and
hardly expected,to recover.
In connection with the physi
cians of the town Dr. Turner of
High Point was called. Miss
Daisy Wilson a trained nurse re-
cently completed her course in
Philadelphia is with him. !
The negro was placed in jail a-

Workman lives'with his Moth
er in North Burlington and 'has
for the past two or three
been delivering bread for the
Dixon Bakery. He is about seven-
teen., years old, but unusually
large for his age.
Austin is a married man age
twenty-five years, old and has
been working for Dixie, Mills.
