Early Settlers - Walker Ranch

The East Walker Ranch property was the first purchase the City of Santa Clarita made with Open Space Preservation District funds, along with a Prop A Grant from Los Angeles County Parks and Open Space District. Prior to the City owning it, it had been a manufacturing site from the 1950’s to the late 1990’s. The property is linked to the 1,000 acre Golden Valley Ranch Open Space just northwest of the property through an under-road tunnel, as well as to the Placerita Nature Center and the Los Pinetos trail just to the west. It is also adjacent to the Angeles National Forest. The Walker Family with their 12 children lived to the west as their father, Frank Walker actually homesteaded the property. The Walker name is synonymous with the pioneer spirit of local history. When the City dedicated the property in 2009, 2 of the 12 Walker children were in attendance.
