Care for Benches

Care for Benches

The benches are coated with a clear acetone based high gloss concrete sealer. To keep them looking like new you can give them a fresh coat every couple of years. Just lightly rough up the surface with a 100 grit sand paper and with a 5 or 6 mm. (good quality roller) roll on a fresh coat. Best done on a cool overcast day or early in the morning as the sealer dries very quickly. The brand of sealer we use is Seal/Cure 25 VOC made by W.R.Meadows Ltd.. If you go to their website they have a dealer locator on there. For graffiti removal the best thing is to wipe it off with Xylene solvent. The Xylene will dissolve some of the sealer so you may need to recoat after removing the graffiti. The Xylene can also be used to remove any bubbling that may happen when you roll on a fresh coat, just a quick wipe the a rag with Xylene on it will reactivate the sealer and remove any bubbles. The benches were manufactured in Canada by Dominion Precast.

Trees

We are planning to plant native memorial trees near the benches. Most likely, we will plant coast live oaks (Quercus agrifolia).
