Radio controlled (RC) sailing is an extremely enjoyable hobby! Whether you just enjoy relaxing day in the park enjoying the beauty of nature or a little friendly competition is your speed, this hobby has a lot to offer any potential skipper.
While the majority of our club's activities revolve around regattas ('sailboat talk' for races), you'll find that the emphasis is definitely on the 'friendly' aspect. Our members are more than happy to answer any questions you may have. Additionally, there is almost always a spare boat we can let you try.
FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q: Do your sailboats have motors?
A: While they can move pretty fast (as long as there is wind), our boats are completely and totally wind powered! There are batteries inside the boat that power the sail winch and rudder servo to allow us to control them, but there are no propellers or engines of any kind.
Q: How much do your boats cost?
A: The answer depends on which class of boat you are interested in. We sail three classes of boats at our club events (Seawind, Dragonforce 65 & Dragonflite 95 sailboats) and each has a slightly different price tag. See our FLEETS PAGE to learn more about each boat. Generally speaking, to invest in a boat and radio gear (some boats come with radio gear already included) you will need to spend between $290-$490.
Q: Can I try out a boat?
A: Absolutely! Our members are often very willing to turn the controls over to any interested or potential sailors. We also have a dedicated club loaner boats that are specifically for beginners to try. Don't be afraid to give it a try--we'll be happy to help. Our boats won't tip over or be damaged if they run into the shore, so have no fear!
Q: Can I bring any boat?
A: Absolutely! Bring any boat, Don't be afraid to give it a try--we'll be happy to help you get your RC Sailing adventure started , so have no fear!
Q: Does the club hold any non-racing events?
A: Most of our events revolve around racing activities, but we do hold a biweekly low key practice regattas every TUESDAY NIGHT (weather permitting) from early May through September. These start at around 5pm and go until we start to lose daylight or wind. These are excellent opportunities to come and learn more about the boats and get to know our club members. The racing at these sessions is geared toward learning the rules and helping one another with tuning up our boats. They are a great opportunity to get some sailing time in a slightly less 'structured' setting.
Q: Does your club have dues (what does it take to become a member)?
A: We don't have dues, when something need attention. we all chip in and get it done. we will have a registration fee for a regional or national regatta events
