Macon is a city in the State Georgia with a population of around 91,300 and was founded in 1823. It owes the name to Nathaniel Macon a politician who joined the United States House of Representatives from 1791 to 1828. The industry of the city concentrates on textiles, aircraft parts, paper products and production of bricks and tiles. Earlier the city Macon was an important cotton-shipping point. In the city are many sights located like the Museum of Arts and Sciences, the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, the Ocmulgee National Monument, the Rose-Hill Cemetery and the Grand Opera House. Furthermore Macon has numerous universities and colleges like the Mercer University (1833), the Macon State College (1968) and the Georgia Academy for the Blind (1852).
